CSPS Newsletter 1/8/2025
Principal's News
Dear Families,
Welcome back to Term 3 – there is so much in store for students and families this term and I’m really excited to be able to share the journey with everyone at Campbell Street Primary School.
Our core focus remains on promoting outstanding learning outcomes for our students and families will have received correspondence from teachers this week outlining curriculum plans for the term.
The hope is that raising awareness of what students are being taught in classrooms will promote family connection with learning and support us in maintaining high expectations for all learners.
Where you have queries about content being delivered in classrooms, or would like to discuss specifics related to student learning, please contact your child’s teacher and make a time to talk.
CSPS Centenary sub-committee
In 2026, the school will be celebrating its centenary year.
In order to make the most of this opportunity to engage the entire school community, the School Association is planning to form a sub-committee to support planning and administration of special events, fund-raisers etc.
If you’re interested in joining the sub-committee, or have some great ideas to offer, please let me know by email (stu.warren@decyp.tas.gov.au)
Aside from the centenary sub-committee, the School Association is also open to new committee members and volunteers to contribute at meetings, support ongoing efforts to fundraise and help ensure the school is continually improving academic and wellbeing outcomes for students.
Let me know if you’d like to know more and I will connect you with a committee member.
Quiz Night
Among the School Association events and fundraisers planned for Term 3, the Quiz Night on Saturday, August 30th looks like being a highlight.
Please save the date (if you haven’t already) and get your team organised!
If you are in a position to donate or source prizes for the quiz night, please contact school admin so we can pass on your details.
Other events
Our next few weeks are looking busy – and exciting – with a number of events scheduled.
During Week 4 and Week 5 we’ll be engaging with Science Week and Book Week celebrations, both of which offer great opportunities for families to participate in the fun.
The Science Week Open Afternoon will take place on Friday, August 15th and families are invited to visit classrooms from 1.45pm to engage in some learning together with our students.
Our annual Book Week parade is the following Tuesday, August 19th from 9am. Families might like to join a special ‘books and breakfast’ prior to the parade to really get into the swing of the celebration.
Keep an eye on our Facebook or via Seesaw for more information.
Winter Sports
Congratulations to our netball and football players for starting their Winter Sports roster in such a positive fashion on Wednesday afternoon.
Lenah Valley Primary School were our visitors this week and it was great to see students from both schools working on making positive connections with each other through a shared love of sport.
Next week we are looking forward to hosting Mt Nelson Primary School for more netball and football.
Families of our Year 5 and Year 6 players are welcome to attend as spectators if they would like to. Please only sign in at the admin office if you need to access the school building for any reason while you are on site during the sports.
Car park update
You might have noticed work has been undertaken to re-spray the drop-off/pick-up bays in the carpark.
Please remain mindful of those being ‘no parking’ areas and the importance of maintaining a throughway during afternoon pick-up time.
Later this year, work will be done to re-mark the rest of the car park and bring additional clarity for everyone in what is a heavily-used part of our school.
Class News
Prep/1
In Prep One we have been listening to Aboriginal Dreamtime stories. We have learned that these stories are very old and have been passed down orally from generation to generation for thousands of years. It is only in recent years that Dreamtime stories have been made into books for everyone to read and share. Dreamtime stories are often creation stories which explain from a First Nations perspective how land formations and animals were created. We listened to two different versions of The Rainbow Serpent which tells the story of how the Rainbow Serpent created mountains, valleys and riverbeds with its body as it travelled through the land. We worked together to create a giant Rainbow Serpent collaborative artwork.
Young Archies Competition
🎨 Congratulations to all Prep–Year 6 students whose artwork was selected for entry into the Young Archies competition!
A special congratulations to our winners:
Rehmat, Marley, Kiyara, Felicity, Gael, Emy, Eddie, Dakota, Finlay, Margot, Jean, Suzanne, Grace, Georgia, Ella, Summer B.

School Association
Dear Families,
Welcome to Term 3. The School Association met this week for their first meeting of the term. We discussed the upcoming activities which include snack shack, Jolly Soles sock fundraiser, quiz night, Bunnings bbq and the Saturday bbqs. Lots of things going on and opportunities for people to volunteer and help out. We even started talking about Term 4 items (it will be here before we know it).
Don’t forget to place your order for Snack Shack and the sock fundraiser. Oh have you organised your quiz table yet. Tables are on sale now. The teachers nearly have three tables already.
Did you know last term the SRC raised just over $900 towards new readers for classes and library books? We agreed to match the amount raised so that is just under $2000 going towards resources to help our children learn.
Conversations continued around activity suggestions for the school’s 100th anniversary celebration next year. A subcommittee is going to be formed to plan out more details. If this is something you’re interested in please let us know.
Our next meeting is on Tuesday, 9th September from 6pm in the staffroom.
SNACK SHACK
We’re excited to announce that our first Snack Shack for Term 3 will be held on Thursday, 7th August! Students will have the opportunity to purchase a variety of tasty snacks.
Qkr! is now open to take orders, orders must be placed by 8pm on Monday, 4th August.
JOLLY SOCKS
🎁 Stuck on a Father’s Day gift? Want matching socks for the whole family?
