CSPS Newsletter 22/11/2024
Principal's News
Dear Families,
We are now into the second half of Term 4 and we are busy panning in preparation for 2025. We are pleased to let you know that staffing arrangements for 2025 are almost complete. We will be welcoming two new teachers to our staff – Lainey Sadek will be joining us, moving from Springfield Gardens Primary School to share a 1/2 class with Linda Flude, and Bec Murray is coming to us from Herdsman’s Cove Primary School to teach full-time on a 5/6 class. Both teachers are excited to be joining our team. A full list of class structures and individual student placements will be shared with end of year reports in week 9.
Save the date – Open Classrooms
Please save the date, Tuesday 3rd December, 2:00 – 2:45pm. We are holding a ‘Celebration of Learning’ in all classrooms, for parents/carers to visit and view learning undertaken throughout the year. Please take this opportunity to engage with your child/children in acknowledging and celebrating their individual growth as learners.
Science Investigation
1/2K have been inquiring into where we are in the world. They first modelled how the planets move around the sun, then made a model of our solar system, ordering the planets.
End of Year Assemblies
Near the end of each school year, we celebrate a wonderful year of learning with Celebration Assemblies. This year these will be held on Tuesday 10th December. The Assembly for K-2 students will commence at 9:30am and the assembly for 3-6 students will commence at 2:00pm. These are always very popular events and bookings are required to attend these assemblies. We have enough space in our hall for each student to invite one guest to their assembly. If you wish to attend, please telephone our office on 62344950 to add your name to the list. We will accept names for a waitlist and let you know closer to the date if we have space. We also celebrate 8 years of primary school learning with our Year 6 Leavers Assembly on Wednesday 18th December, commencing at 1:30pm. Fir the Leavers Assembly, each year 6 student is able to invite up to 4 guests. Please telephone our office if you wish to be added to the list for the Leavers Assembly.
Pizzas on the Domain
Our School Association is an amazing group of volunteers who support our school each year with a range if fundraising events. To celebrate the end of the school year, the School Association also host the annual Pizzas on the Domain. Please save the date and come along to relax with other CSPS families.
Best wishes,
Susan Jeffery

Class News
Kinder/Prep
In Kinder/Prep this term we have been practicing retelling stories and information that we have listened to, discussed or viewed in class. We learned all about geckos. Did you know that geckos don’t have any eyelids and they lick their eyes to keep them moist? And if you look through one ear you can see through to the other side.
In Science we have been looking at how things move. The students have looked at pin ball machines and built their own pin ball constructions using a marble for the ball and objects found in the classroom. We talked about how the marble bounces, rolls and is pushed and pulled by the objects. The students drew their constructions and included arrows for the direction that the marble could go.
Reading is a big focus in Prep and we have some amazing readers in our class. Every day we have a new 'Star of the Day' and this star will read a book to the class. The class is always very respectful and encouraging to all our very brave readers who stand up in front of the class to read.
Kinder
Term 4 in Kindergarten has been flying by. We have been doing lots of different learning activities and are looking forward to many of the events coming up in the second half of this term.
This term we have been doing many learning and play activities linked to farms. One of our main projects was planning for and building a tractor for our class farm, which we have set up in the dramatic play area. We also wrote about and drew pictures of how we made our tractor and have had lots of fun playing in our tractor.
We also learnt about chickens. We created chicken life cycles and discussed the different parts of a chicken for both a hen and a rooster. We even had a chicken visitor, one of Mrs O’s bantam chickens!
Our whole class number focus this term has revolved around looking at “friends of 10” and thinking about how 10 can be made up of different parts. In our smaller groups we have also had activities looking at recognising numerals up to 20, writing numerals, and counting on.
In literacy we have been continuing our work around concepts of print. This includes knowing where the cover is, where to find the title, where we start reading on a page or what direction we read in. Some students have been doing this in small reading groups, others have been looking at recognising letter names and sounds and starting to blend these to read simple words.
We have also continued with our phonics learning which includes learning about different sounds, how our mouths make those sounds, thinking about words that start with that sound and thinking about the sounds in our names.
Year 1/2FH
In 1/2FH this term, we have been focussing on two different writing genres, poetry and persuasive writing.
In our poetry lessons, we’ve learned to think up clever rhymes to add rhythm to our sentences. We’ve also learned to create acrostic poems using our own names or the names of our friends.
Our second writing focus has been on persuasive writing. We are currently in the process of writing a letter to Mrs Hassen to convince her to bring in Oreos for the class. All of us have to give three strong reasons why we are for or against this idea.
Assembly Certificates
Congratulations to all of the students who received Certificates during our School Assembly on Tuesday 12th of November.
School Association
Less than 4 weeks left of 2024. This year has been a big one for the school association and we appreciate the support of the school community in raising funds to go towards resources and activities for the children.
Thank you to the organisers and volunteers who helped out with our colour fun run. This year we used the fun run as a major fundraiser for the association and it was well supported by all the families. We hoped all the children had a great time and enjoyed the fun run this year. Children can still fundraise up until Wednesday 27th November. This is also when prizes need to be ordered based on amounts raised by your child.
Launched yesterday was our end of year raffle. Tickets are available via Qkr! $2 each or 3 for $5. The raffle will be drawn on Tuesday 10th December.
Have you got the Pizza's on the Domain on Thursday 20th December in your diary. If it's not, write it in there now. All families and teachers are welcome to bring your pizzas to be cooked in the community oven and enjoy an evening with no cooking.
