Principal's News
Dear Families,
Today saw the final session of our annual P-2 Water Orientation Program. It is amazing to see the progress made in confidence and skills in the water across a ten day program. This invaluable program would not be possible without the financial support of our School Association and we thank the association for their continued support. A big thank you as well to the parents/carers who were able to assist during the program.
Congratulations to the large team of students who represented CSPS in the Division C Interschool Swimming Carnival this week. Our team came a very creditable fourth place against much bigger schools and a number of students have been selected to participate in the Champions Swimming Carnival. Thank you again to parents who helped at the carnival.
Children’s Mayor Morning Tea
Two of our students recently had the privilege of being selected to represent CSPS at the Children’ Mayor Morning Tea at the Town Hall. Georgia and Grace reported back on their experience:
We were picked to participate in the Children's Mayor of Hobart competition. On the 23rd of October we went to town hall with Mrs Cotton.
When we arrived all the entries were hanging up on display. We read some of the other contestants' ideas. When everybody arrived and everyone was ready Lord Mayor Anna Reynolds came up to speak. She did acknowledgement of country and thanked us all for coming. We also heard from the interim Commissioner for Children Isabelle Lloyd. The Lord Mayor then announced the winners. 3 people received highly commended award as well as a Deputy and Children’s Mayor. The Children’s Mayor was a girl named Lola from The Friends School. She got to wear a black cloak and a big gold necklace, like the Lord Mayor does in ceremonies. We both got certificates and a free plant!
We had morning tea with the mayor as well.
After everyone had morning tea with the mayor, we all went to the council chamber and we had a discussion about votes. The Children’s Mayor ran the meeting like the real Council. It was VERY cool then we went outside to the front of town hall to take a photo with everybody including the mayor.
Students against Racism
Last week our Grade 3-6 students were privileged to have had the opportunity to be part of a workshop run by the TasTAFE group Students Against Racism. In partnership with A Fairer World, the Students Against Racism deliver powerful anti-racism workshops. Our Year 3-6s heard the stories of many of these students and openly discussed the harm caused by racist language and cultural prejudice. We are fortunate to have a beautifully diverse school community at Campbell Street, and it is our hope that people feel respected and included at all times.
Home Reading
We thank parents/carers for your patience as we have undertaken the big task of reorganising our Home Readers. These texts are now sorted into colour categories according to level of fluency required to read successfully. The focus on texts levelled by numbers has been de-implemented, as required by DECYP. The focus for Home Reading is now on reading to, with and by your child/ren. We are continuing to award students with certificates for the number of nights they have read. Some students will soon be reaching 300 nights!
Assembly
A reminder that our first Assembly for Term 4 is next Tuesday, 12th November. This is a “Group A” Assembly, with Kinder, Kinder/Prep, 1/2K, 3/4CE ad 5/6 presenting. Parents of students in those classes are welcome to attend.
Best wishes,

Music
This term we have been focusing on music notation. The K-2 classes have been developing their understanding of how music is written down. Students in Grades 3-6 have been composing their own pentatonic melodies and writing them on the music stave. The Marimba Ensemble and Choir have been rehearsing together to prepare for a performance in Assembly.
