Principal's News
Dear Families,
Last week we engaged in a variety of wonderful experiences to celebrate Book Week.
Book Week Parade
Despite being a little chilly we had a lovely morning for our Book Week Parade. Thank you to all family members who came along to watch and for helping your children make an effort with their fabulous costumes. Here are some of the awesome characters who could be seen wandering around Campbell Street Primary School.
Book Fair
Thank you to the many families who supported our Scholastic Book Fair. We sold over $1000 worth of books! Along with this our school has earnt a significant amount of “points” with which to purchase new reading materials for our Library. Well done everyone!
Premier’s Reading Challenge – Governor’s visit
We were delighted and honoured to welcome Her Excellency, the Governor Barbara Baker and Professor Don Chalmers to visit CSPS in conjunction with Book Week and the Premier's Reading Challenge. Our guests enjoyed a tour of the school and observed our Peer Reading Program. Some students were privileged to have a story read to them by Her Excellency.
Hats
Time to find your school hat and bring it to school!
Hats are required at school for outdoor activities from the beginning of September (next Monday) until the end of April as per Cancer Council Sun Smart Guidelines
Hats for school must be Sunsmart – no caps please.
Students who do not have a Sunsmart hat as of Monday 2nd September will be required to play under the blue shade sail in our Area 3 playground.
School Satisfaction Survey
The 2024 School Satisfaction Surveys are here!
Every year the Department for Education, Children and Young People conducts a School Satisfaction Survey to find out what your child(ren)'s school does well and where it may improve.
We would be grateful if you completed our online survey about Campbell Street Primary School. Your feedback is very important to help us inform our school-planning and decision-making.
The survey is open from Monday 26 August 2024 until Friday 20 September 2024 and should take about 5 minutes to complete.
Each family should nominate one person to fill in this survey for their child(ren).
Take the online survey by clicking this Link, or pasting it in your browser: https://nam.dcv.ms/lrKeFB93i7
The survey is carried out on a secure website and all responses are anonymous and confidential.
All families in this school received the same survey link and no identifying information is collected. A summary of the survey results will be provided to schools. Responses from individuals or small groups will NOT be disclosed to any Department for Education, Children and Young People staff.
Please contact the school if you require any assistance.
Thank you for taking the time to fill in this survey.
School Uniform
A reminder that we require students to wear the Campbell Street Primary School Uniform, as per our Uniform Policy & Dress Code. The purposes of our Dress Code and Uniform Policy are to promote a shared sense of school identity and to ensure students are dressed safely and appropriately for school. We encourage students to take pride in their appearance and we prepare learners for the expectations of the workplace.
‘Dress Code’ means a set of requirements for how students should present themselves when attending or representing their school. The Dress Code and Uniform Policy apply during school activities (including out-of-hours or off site activities), on the school campus and while travelling to or from school (while wearing school uniform), unless an exemption has been granted.
New uniform items are available from Uniform City, just down from school in Campbell Street. We also have a range oif good quality second hand uniform items available to purchase at our school office for a small donation. Please contact our office if you need assistance in sourcing uniform items.
School Association Purchases
To practise their persuasive writing, 3/4 CT wrote to the School Association to ask for money for board games for the library and for every classroom. We are very grateful to the Association for their generous donation and now we all have new, fun games to play!
Winter Sports Carnival
Two of our Year 5 students, Summer and Jenny, were selected to participate in the Hockey competition as part of this year’s Winter Sports Carnival. Well done girls!

Class News
Prep/1
On Monday 19th August our Prep One class along with Prep students from the Kinder Prep class visited the Molesworth Environment Centre. At the beginning of the day we sat down inside the Environment Centre and saw lots of interesting objects including a taxidermied feral cat and Tasmanian Devil and an eagle's skeleton. Then we went outside and walked up a hill to a space in the bush where we worked together in teams to build shelters. After that we began our bush walk. We went through the bush and over the dancing bridge until we came to a campfire. We carefully cooked damper on sticks on the campfire and then we got to eat it, yum! After that we had our lunch and a play. After all of that excitement we calmed down by listening to the sounds of the bush. We could hear lots of birds and frogs. We also made nature art from leaves, twigs and rocks. We all had a great day.
Year 3/4
This term 3/4CT have been investigating ‘How do people interact with places and environments within Australia.
We have researched about different Biomes. Some biomes are dry and have hardly any water, this is where you would find different deserts. The largest desert in the world is Antarctica. The largest desert in Australia is the Simpson Desert. Other biomes receive lots of rain. These are tropical or subtropical rainforests. In a forest or rainforest, the trees grow close together to form a canopy. In a woodland, the trees are further apart so that more sunlight gets through.
We have also investigated the soil cycle. There are 5 components to soil- hummus, gravel, sand, silt and clay. We looked at different types of soil to find out which holds the most water, which was soil from the riverbank. Good soil needs a mix of all components plus to be loose so that air can get in.
In week 8 we will be visiting Littlewood Farm to find out how they interact with the land.
Assembly Certificates
Congratulations to the students who received Assembly Certificates on Tuesday 20th of August.
Eco Warrior's Bake Sale
Thank you to all the families who donated baked goods or made a purchase at our bake sale. We raised just over $500. We can now buy yellow recycling bins for every classroom to ensure that we are doing our bit to ensure our waste is sorted correctly. As a team we have also been working on posters to help with this.
From the Eco Warriors Team- Julia, Olive, Travis, Harlee and Elsa.
