CSPS Newsletter 24/5/2024
Principal's Message
Dear Families,
This week we take the opportunity to remind families of our Attendance policies and procedures.
Regular school attendance is essential in helping your child/ren to gain the skills and knowledge needed for success both now and later in life. Every school day matters for your child’s education. Absences are only authorised for reasons such as being unwell or experiencing a significant event which impacts on your child’s ability to attend school.
If your child needs to be away from school, it is important to tell the school as soon as possible. You can:
- Send a note or email to the school.
- Telephone the school office.
- Send a message via SZApp.
- Visit the school.
The principal may ask for a medical certificate or further evidence to explain absence for illness, after your child has been absent for a total of more than 5 days in a school year.
The principal may also request evidence for other authorised absences, such as evidence of participation in an event or recognised learning experience, or a statutory declaration from a parent.
If your child is absent for a reason that is not on the authorised list, the absence will be recorded as an unauthorised absence.
Schools strongly encourage families to arrange family holidays during school holiday time.
Schools will follow up absences, which could include sending letters to let you know how many unauthorised absences your child has during the year. If you want your child to attend school but need help to do this, the school would really like to talk to you about what help you need.
Schools have professional support staff who can support you and your child to improve school attendance.
Cross Country
Our annual CSPS Cross Country Carnival was held two weeks ago, on a drizzly but mild day. Students K-6 ran the course with excitement and determination, showing true grit and pride in personal achievement. The winning House on the day was Wattle. Of particular note was the support given to our students by our House Captains and Vice-Captains. This is an exceptional group of young people who embody our focus value of Responsibility. Congratulations to students who have been selected in our school team to participate in the Interschool Cross Country Carnival to be held on Wednesday 5th June.

National Heart Health Awareness Week
Thank you to our SRC leaders who ran skipping club at recess and lunch each day to get our hearts pumping during National Heart Health Awareness Week. Congratulations to these three champions who were the best of the best in the Friday “Skip Off.”
Drama Club
Drama Club is back on while our Area 3 playground is out of action. During the first session, students participated in chair acting, portraying different emotions and actions to dramatic music. The prompts were happy, angry, scared, sad, royal and then cat! What an awesome effort for the first session!
Parent/Carer Help
Parents and Carers are always welcome as helpers in our classrooms, by arrangement with class teachers. We would love to see more parents/carers involved in our day-to-day school life. Possibilities include helping with Reading, Art & Craft, Technology or perhaps you have a special skill that you would like to share with students! If you are keen to help, please contact your child’s class teacher via Seesaw or email or in person. All volunteers are required to have a current Working with Vulnerable People Registration (and show their card at our office) and to have completed the 15 minute Safeguarding Training.
Best wishes,
Susan Jeffery

Class News
Prep/1
In Science we have been observing and exploring how everyday objects can move and how factors including their size, shape or material influence their movement. We have been making predictions about how we think objects will move and conducting our own simple experiments with ramps to observe and find out. We have been recording our findings and sharing them with classmates.
Year 3/4CT
This term in 3/4CT, our Science Inquiry focus is on forces and their effects on objects. This week we have been sharing our ideas and prior understandings about magnetic forces as well as engaging in hands-on experiences using magnets. As a class, we then developed questions about magnetic forces for further investigation as we continue our Science Inquiry.
Here are some examples of what we want to find out:
Can magnets connect through windows? -Jason
Why were magnets invented and when? - Georgia
How far can magnets reach? - Toby
I wonder how magnetic powder follows a magnet? - Anh
How strong can magnets be? -Amy
