CSPS Newsletter 10th May 2024
Principal's News
Dear Families,
In many ways we have got off to a great for Term 2 with classes straight back to focussed learning. I have been so impressed with the way in which all classes are embracing positive, orderly learning environments and embodying our school values of Connection, Courage, Growth, Respect and Responsibility. Our current focus value continues to be Responsibility
Unfortunately, an incident in our playground last week, out of school hours, has marred our start to Term 2. Vandals started a fire overnight in our Area 3 playground, destroying one of the large shade sails and causing significant damage to play areas. This is so disappointing and means that our “new” outdoor learning area is now unusable until repairs are completed. It has been heartening to receive many messages of support from families and the wider school community, showing the strength of pride amongst us all in our beautiful school. We hope that repairs will commence soon.
Due to the closure of our Area 3 playground, we have re-instated recess and lunch time “clubs.” With two sessions to opt into each day, we hope to see lots of students enjoying a variety of activities in addition to the regular play options in our main playground.
ANZAC Day
ANZAC DAY fell during the school holidays this year and we are grateful to the families who represented our school at the ANZAC Parade, carrying banners and acknowledging the service of our country men and women in many settings.
Dress Code and Uniform Policy
The purposes of our Dress Code and Uniform Policy are to promote a shared sense of school identity and to ensure students are dressed safely and appropriately for school. We encourage students to take pride in their appearance and we prepare learners for the expectations of the workplace.
‘Dress Code’ means a set of requirements for how students should present themselves when attending or representing their school. The Dress Code and Uniform Policy apply during school activities (including out-of-hours or off site activities), on the school campus and while travelling to or from school (while wearing school uniform), unless an exemption has been granted.
With the weather becoming colder, we have started to see quite a few students wearing non-uniform jumpers. We require students to wear school uniform jumpers/jackets.
School Attendance
Help us better understand any barriers that may be in the way, and what supports are needed to help with getting to school.
The Department for Education, Children and Young People is doing statewide consultation on school attendance. 3P Advisory is independently running the consultation. Your answers are confidential, and you won’t be identified.
We want to hear from you. You can take part in an online survey, share or vote for suggestions, or join an online drop-in session via the 3P website. The survey takes approximately 10 minutes to complete.
You can also share your thoughts about what you like or don’t like about our Every school day matters campaign.
As a parent or carer, please have your say. Please encourage your child/ren, too.
Every piece of feedback counts. Thanks for helping shape future DECYP initiatives, school-based engagement strategies and public awareness campaigns.
National Heart Health Awareness Week
This week we have recognised National Heart Health Awareness Week. The SRC has helped to create opportunities to have some fun and get hearts pumping. The leaders have been on the basketball courts at recess and lunch each day and our finalists have enjoyed a “skip off” today.
Cross Country
This week we held our annual K-6 Cross Country Carnival. Report and photos will feature in our next newsletter.
Best wishes,
Susan Jeffery

Class News
Music
The Kinder, Prep and Grade 1 students have been inspired by Autumn and used Autumn-coloured dancing scarves, chime bars and movement to highlight the structure of a song called ‘Autumn Leaves are Falling’ (see photo). The Grade 1/2 classes are preparing to attend the Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra’s schools concert called ‘Words and Music’.
The upper primary classes are learning about Irish music and instruments as well as writing their own limericks to perform with an audio track…
Limerick by Isaac from Grade 5/6
There once was a man from China
He was a mountain climber
He found a gold rock
Fell down in shock
And sold it to Mr Niner.
Limerick by Ben and Oliver from Grade 5/6
There once was a man called Fred
Who hit his head on his bed
He went sleep
By counting sheep
And now all he sees is red.
Physical Education
Physical Education
We have had an extremely busy start to the year in PE lessons. Kinder-Grade 2 students began the year with a focus on gross motor skills and developing basic movements such as running, hopping & skipping. We then shifted our focus to athletics-based events to prepare for the Kinder-2 Athletics Carnival. The start of this term has had a focus on preparing for the cross country with lots of effort practicing our running track.
Grade 3-6 students began the year with athletics preparation and then moved on to a sport education unit looking at what makes a sporting competition work. We participated in a soccer tournament that helped developed skills but also had students taking on roles such as scoring, timing and refereeing, to gain an understanding of what can contribute to a sport being able to be played. The last part of the term and beginning of this term, like the K-2 students, we have been focussing on preparing for our cross country.
Overall I have been extremely impressed with efforts from all students in PE lessons, in what has been such a busy start to the year!
