Principal's News
Term 1 has come and gone. I have very much enjoyed my Acting Principal role, leading our fine group of teachers and seeing the students grow has been wonderful. While I am sad to stop, we are all looking forward to seeing Susan Jeffery return in Term 2.
Reporting and Communicating with Families in 2024
The table below outlines our plan for communicating learning progress with families.
In sharing more regularly we are able to build strong partnerships with families and help families feel connected to their child’s learning. Opportunities to discuss your child’s progress will be in Term 2 and 3. Of course if there are any concerns throughout the year please make contact with your child’s classroom teacher,
K-2 Athletics
Again, Mr Latham organised a fantastic occasion for our younger students to experience athletics. Such great activities, egg and spoon, parachute, tunnel ball, chicken throw, sack races, tug-o-war, running races and relays. Well done everyone for such great participation and lovely to see so many families attending.
HARMONY DAY FLAG WINNERS
Campbell Street Primary entered the School Harmony Flag competition through the Multicultural Council of Tasmania. They were displayed at the Multicultural Hub, in Moonah, where they bought a lot of colour and fun. There were many community members who spent time looking at them all. We had many students from 1/2 to 5/6 enter. Below is our winning flag! Well done to everyone who participated in such a lovely community event and representing our school value of connection.
Kinds regards,
Emily Leaman

Dear Families,

I would like to extend many grateful thanks to Emily Leaman and the rest of our Leadership Team, who have all done a fantastic job throughout Term 1 in setting our students up for a year of engaged learning and have continued our tradition of a positive, supportive school culture. Year 1/2FH News
Year 1/2FH’s excursion!
Last Friday, Year 1/2FH went on an excursion to the Tasmanian Museum and Art Gallery. We all hopped on a bus in the morning and were greeted by our lovely museum tour guides, Ruby and Michael, when we arrived. The students had the opportunity to become ‘museum curators.’ This means they were put into groups, given cards with pictures of various objects on them (like frogs, fossils and dolls!), and their job was to sort them into different groups based on a theme. The 1/2s had a fabulous time working together to form their own collections!
In Year 1/2FH, we’ve been looking at how things have changed over time. After the students were done being museum curators, we visited an exhibition called ‘Our changing land,’ showcasing objects and stories from colonial times. The students were able to get a glimpse of what life was like for people living in the 19th century and compare it to how they live now. They noticed many differences and similarities, but most of all, they noticed how much technology has improved and they felt very happy about this, indeed.
Year 1/2K News
Inquiry:
This term 1/2K has been inquiring into how families are different and how they have changed over time. As part of our investigations, students have brought in family photos, drawn family selfies, and created family maps of what their family looks like. We investigated what families in the past looked like and how they have changed over time and created Venn diagrams that show their understanding. Here is some of our work.
On Wednesday the 13th of March our class went on an adventure to the Tasmanian Museum and Art Gallery (TMAG). We had a great guided tour of what a museum does and why we have them. We learnt all about artifacts and how they are stored and collected. Then we had an explore of the museum in small groups, answering questions related to our family inquiry. Here is some of our thinking and some photos from our excursion. Thank you again to the helpers that came along on the day.
Mathematics:
This term in maths we have been looking at place value and understanding parts of numbers. Last week the class participated in a rich task working in groups to order and place numbers on a piece of string. Students worked well in teams and presented their timelines to the class, explaining why they put the numbers where they did.
Athletics Carnival:
Last Thursday the class participated in the K-2 Athletics carnival. Students showed courage and resilience throughout the event, as well as teamwork and kindness, as they cheered on their fellow classmates. Here are some of the students’ favourite parts:
Piper – I enjoyed sack racing and the tug of war because they were both very fun.
Sam – I enjoyed being the starter of races.
Nusaiba – I enjoyed the chicken throw and the parachute.
Lily – I liked the egg and spoon and sack races, 50m race and the tug of war.
Aaron - I loved the 50m race
Sophie - My favourite part was also the 50m race.
Stella – My favourite part was tug of war because I had never played tug of war before.
Khalid – I enjoyed the tug of war and 50m race.
Finlay – My favourite part was tug of war and the running races.

Jack Jumpers Clinic
On Wednesday 1st May, week 1 term 2, the school is having a visit from the JackJumpers School program. 3/4 CE and 3/4 ME have been following the schools program in class. They have looked at diversity, resilience and healthy eating.
JackJumpers’ partnership with Huon Aquaculture regarding this school program, means that they will be offering a breakfast of smoked salmon + scrambled eggs + vegemite on toast for students, followed by a day of basketball clinics led by Jack the Jumper mascot and community coaches. Each class will participate in a 30 minute clinic, scheduled throughout the day.
Breakfast will be provided from 8:30. Students can line up at the kitchen roller door to collect on the day.
