Principal's News
The term is well and truly speeding along. There is a hum of learning, and everyone is working hard.
School Improvement Plan
Every school in Tasmania has a School Improvement Plan (SIP). These documents are an opportunity for schools to analyse data and find areas of focus, to progress student learning and build teachers professional capacity. DECYP have asked schools to have three focus areas, reading, safeguarding and attendance. From this our school has three priority questions.
Reading- Campbell Street Primary School focus will begin implementation of a whole school approach to the structured teaching of literacy and establish a Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) framework for reading.
Safeguarding- Campbell Street Primary School will have supports in place to ensure all children and young people are safe at school.
Attendance- Campbell Street Primary School will begin implementation of a whole school approach to improving attendance and reducing absence and establish a Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) framework for attendance.
Reports and Evidences of Learning
Coming home on Friday 5th April will be the students Primary Progress Report (PPR) and an English Evidence of Learning. The PPR focuses students work habits and communication within the classroom. The Evidence of Learning will allow families to have an understanding of how their child is progressing with in the English curriculum.
SSPSA Carnival
Thursday 28th April saw a big team of 47 students heading to the Domain Athletics Track to proudly represent themselves and Campbell Street Primary. Students enjoy these days as a way of building connections with other members of our school and is an experience quite different to classroom learning.
NAPLAN and Early Years PAT
NAPLAN and PAT have been completed over the last couple of weeks and it was great to see students relaxed, calm and ready to go. A big thank you to Claire Cotton (AST) for her commitment and organisation of this process.
Kinds regards,

Class News
Kinder
We have had a wonderful start to the year in Kinder Ferguson. This term we have been focussing on building our sense of belonging and connection to our classmates, teachers and school. Students wrote letters with their families about themselves to share with the class, we have been practising learning everyone’s names and doing activities about ourselves and our families. Here students created their faces using playdough and loose parts.
The Kinder students also made their family using playdough and discussed who is in their family.
Students have been learning our structures and routines and developing new relationships through play. As well as the important social and communication benefits of play, learning through play is integral in the early years for developing imagination, creativity, problem solving and literacy skills.

We also talked about the many languages spoken in our community and around the world. With our buddies 5/6 Issac we used watercolours to decorate speech bubbles with different ways to say hello in multiple languages. We were also lucky to have one of our wonderful parents, Nizar, read us ‘Going on a bear hunt’ in Gujarati and English, and Mrs Bakolias and Mrs Ferguson read ‘Where the wild things are’ in Greek and English.
Chess Tournament
The talented Campbell Street Chess Champs put on an incredible performance at the recent Interschool Chess tournament at The Friends School on Tuesday 26th March 2024.
Campbell Street Primary School had a formidable team of 9 students who represented the school with outstanding sportsmanship and behaviour. There was hardly a noise to be heard as students were focused and eager to outsmart their opponent and earn points for their team.
It was very heartening to see students display such positive attitudes towards themselves and others no matter the result of the game, with some students even proclaiming that ‘even though they lost, they still learned heaps!’ What great insight and outlook to have throughout life.
Thanks to William, Archer, Dom, Aaron, Travis, Moe, Harrison, Oliver, Oscar for your outstanding effort and determination!
The tournament was organised by Black Square Chess. Contact James at https://blacksquarechess.com to find out more about chess offerings throughout 2024 including holiday programs.
