Principal's Message
Welcome Back to 2024!
Welcome Back!
The first few weeks of the 2024 school year have seen students settling into new classes and routines, forging new friendships and taking on engaging and challenging learning experiences. It is particularly exciting at this time every year to see our new Kindergarten students delighting in the school environment and our Prep students joining us for 5 days a week at school. Also, very exciting is seeing our new Year 6s stepping up as student leaders, taking on a range of extra roles. Mr Latham has been talking with students about our Sports Leaders program and House/Vice-House Captain positions. Today we held elections in House groups for these positions. The successful candidates will be announced next Monday.
Please keep a close eye on our calendar, as dates for the term and year ahead are there for your reference. Dates for our 3-6 Athletics Carnival and our K-2 Fun Sports morning are on our calendar.
Volunteers
We highly value the volunteers who support our school in so many ways. With new Department policies coming into action this year things are changing.
All volunteers are required to complete our Safeguarding modules in order to be part of school activities such as parent help and excursions. On arrival evidence of a Working with Vulnerable People is required along with evidence of the module completion. The following link with take you to the modules.

Teachers will let you know when they are ready to invite parent helpers to assist with class activities. All visitors and volunteers must sign in at our office when volunteering.
School Association
Our first School Association Meeting will be held at school on Tuesday 20th February from 6:00pm. All parents are automatically members of the School Association and committee members are elected regularly. The meetings are a chance to hear about school programs/policies and to work together on fundraising opportunities. In 2023, funds raised went towards a range of items including our Prep-2 Water Orientation Program, the Growing up Program, online learning programs, Home Readers and novel sets and a new set of Sports tops. This enables our students to be, ready for our teams who will be competing in Interschool Carnivals. Please join the meeting if you are interested in hearing more about the amazing work carried out by Association and to meet other parents – there is no pressure to give up lots of your valuable time; every little bit of assistance goes towards achieving great goals. If you would like to be part of the School Association meetings please contact the school office.
Meet the Teacher/Welcome BBQ
Please mark Thursday 29th February in your diaries – on this day we will be a holding a Meet the Teacher/Welcome BBQ event, from 3:00pm – 5:30pm. Parents will be able to visit classrooms, see learning environments, meet teachers and chat about the year ahead. Please note: this is not a time for parent-teacher discussions about individual students. Parents are very welcome to make an appointment at any time to discuss their child’s needs with teachers and there will be an “application to learning” report home near the end of term. At the Meet the Teacher event we will be cooking sausages, one for each family member in attendance. We are still following COVID safe behaviours, so we will have a booking system by which parents can select a block of time to visit a classroom. The details for booking will be sent home next week.

EdSmart
Our School will be switching over to a new messaging platform for communicating with you. This will replace our current system SchoolZine.
The new platform, called EdSmart is an Australian platform which is designed to improve communication in school communities by allowing electronic messaging i.e. SMS and emails. For now, it will be used to manage absences messages i.e. you will receive a SMS or email alert if your child is absent from school requesting a response. It will also allow us to send a communication message to all parent/guardians.
The platform will, over time, be rolled out across all Tasmanian Government Schools and new features will be added.
You will receive a text message and/or an email with further details. Note, the text message sender will be a shortened version of our school’s name - Please keep an eye out for it!

Lets make Every Day Count
Here we go, another exciting school year ahead! We hope you enjoyed your holidays.
By showing up to school every day, your child will have the best opportunity at a bright future. It gives them every chance to be around friends, learn new things, and find interests.
Good attendance habits can sometimes be hard to stick. But creating a solid routine, from the start of Term 1, can set your child up for success for the year ahead.
If you’re looking for tips on how to create better attendance habits, visit the Anything can happen website.
Please always talk to us if you’re having trouble getting your child to school. We’re here to help.
